― Jason Malone

Jason Malone is the protagonist of Gangstar Vegas.

Background

Jason is specialized in mixed martial arts (MMA) and is from the east coast of the United States. He used to be involved in criminal activities alongside his friends but eventually left his life of crime and went to Las Vegas. He has a cousin named Paul O'Riley, who is a friend of Vera Montello's but is not seen in the game.

Appearances

Gangstar Vegas

Upon arrival in Vegas, Jason meets Frank Veliano, the most powerful mobster in town. Veliano wants him to fight in a ring and take a dive in the fourth round, because he wants Jason to be part of his system. To intimidate him, he shoots a man who had betrayed him right in front of Jason's eyes.

However, in the third round, before Jason is supposed to take his dive, his opponent Pietro Holston goes down (later revealed as a bribe from Vera Montello) and Jason has to escape from Frank's henchmen. During the chase, he calls Montello for assistance. At the strip, his car is rammed by one of Frank's henchmen, but Montello's accountant Karen Olsen comes to the rescue with a D340. They are cornered in the canyon, but jump onto the waters nearby and swim to safety.

Jason and Karen meet Montello, who knocked out 2 cops nearby that were guarding a Ballistae armored truck, which they subsequently escape in. After all the chaos, they return to Montello's strip club Fire and Vice. They meet an associate known as "E-Man" (Eric) and start sabotaging Frank. However, at some point later on, Frank, his right-hand man Benny, and their henchmen attack Vera's strip club and capture Jason, forcing him to work for them. Jason then has to do jobs for Veliano, Benny, and their ally, mayoral candidate Reverend Winston Goodman. After Benny captures Karen in order to blackmail Vera, Jason stages a rescue with assistance from Vera and E-Man. They have some preparation such as breaking into the military base to steal some reconnaissance devices. They bust into Frank's casino and successfully rescue Karen, where Jason also savagely beats up Benny to prevent Frank from killing him. They make their escape, but are cornered by an excessive amount of goons on a road chase. After Vera was mortally wounded, she reveals her role in Jason's downfall, and, out of guilt, sacrifices herself to eliminate Frank's minions whist the three others escape, despite their objections.

Jason now has to work with Karen since she has found out that Frank killed her father, which makes her keen on killing Veliano. Benny was later arrested, and Karen convinces Jason to assist, preventing Frank's minions from killing him. In return, Benny provides incriminating photos of Goodman. Jason, Karen and E-Man later corner and blackmail Goodman, who exposes Frank to the authorities in exchange for their silence.

Veliano tries to flee with his money on a helicopter, though before that, Benny, Karen and Jason manage to seize the vehicle. Jason refuses the assistance of Karen and Benny, though he does take Benny's advice of bringing a parachute. After repeated futile threats, Jason ousts Frank in a fistfight, but was shot in the leg by Frank. Using the leaking fuel to his advantage, Jason throws his cigarette lighter, and Frank bursts into flames. In a failed effort to kill Jason, Frank falls off the building to his death, and Jason parachutes onto Karen's Störer.

Outside the main story missions, Jason can participate in side-missions, such as participating in races organized by Racer Girl or causing mayhem around town with local DJ Roni Q. He can also participate in fistfights.

In the UFO Sighting software update, Jason and E-Man investigate the latter's delivery boy's sudden disappearance, which culminates in Jason assisting the military to destroy Steve's UFO.

In the update Devil's Due, Jason meets the Devil at Fowl Casino. The Devil reveals that Jason's brother, who had been killed by a shotgun wound, was shot the in the same way a year before his death. Jason "sold [his] soul" to the Devil for his brother to live, only to die "in the same exact goddamn way". After fighting off many of her minions, Jason agrees to work for the devil in exchange for keeping his soul.
