Gangstar 2: Kings of L.A. is an top-down open-world action-adventure video game published by Gameloft and developed by at least of its subsidiaries. It is the second installment in the Gangstar series and was released in 2008 for button-operated mobile phones, BREW, Android devices, BlackBerry, and Nintendo DSi. It stars Pedro and Juan as they escape Mexico and move to L.A. to live a new life.

Synopsis[]

"Move to the West Coast and immerse yourself in Los Angeles gang life with Gangstar 2: Kings of L.A. Complete 75 different missions that combine the best of action games and driving games.

» Explore Los Angeles and its famous neighbourhoods, including Hollywood, Beverly Hills, downtown, the suburbs and the harbour.

» A unique feeling of freedom: drive or walk anywhere in massive, open environments. Feel free to complete missions at your own pace, or just do absolutely anything you want.

» A thrilling storyline with flashbacks and unexpected developments: go from rags to riches, connect with relatives and help out their gang until you’re living the golden life.

» Improved driving experience: drive cars, quads, motorcycles and use the environment to perform unbelievable stunts.

» Use the inner camera or outer camera to decrease your wanted status, take a new photo of your face and fake your ID card to remain incognito."

The game starts in Tijuana, Mexico. Pedro and Juan have presumably just escaped prison after a failed bank heist. Their next step is to flee Mexico by crossing the border. So Pedro and Juan steal a car, get chased by police and make it over the border. From there they travel to L.A. and meet up with their cousin L.C. who orders them to fetch his son Lil' T.

Gameplay[]

Gangstar 2: Kings of L.A. is a top-down open-world action-adventure video game; the game world may be traversed on foot or by vehicle.

Players can complete missions at their own leisure. It is possible to buy or sell drugs (Candies) to earn money, although it is possible get drugs (Candies) from killing civilians.

Web demo[]

A web demo for Gangstar 2: Kings of L.A. was on the Gameloft site from late January 2010 to at most 2012. The web demo was unfortunately not saved. The controls for the demo are: numpad for movement and the F1 and F2 keys as soft keys.

DSi-exclusive features[]

  • You can take a photo of yourself using the DSi's camera. This photo will be displayed in billboards across Los Angeles.
  • You are able to make a fake ID using a photo and signature that is used to evade the police when you are wanted.
  • The DSi's camera is used for some missions. (ex. photographing "elements" of a certain color to win a reward)

  • In the beginning of the game, it is not stated where in Mexico Pedro and Juan are, but it is possible to find out that they are in Tijuana, Mexico by mission failing the tutorial. (You can fail the tutorial by getting arrested)
